5 tips to help you stick to your fitness goals in 2022
The start of a new year is the perfect time to turn a new page, which is probably why new year resolutions exist. However, 2022 is different as we continue to cope with the challenges around Covid, and many people are feeling low around this time as the pandemic has become a way of life. With gyms closures and having to settle for virtual workouts, it can be taxing to take a step in the right direction.
Here are a few tips to help you ease into your fitness journey for 2022 and make sure you stay motivated throughout the year.
- Flexible Attitude: While you may be super excited to start your Yoga class and see where your fitness journey goes. The pandemic may get in your way, and you might have to alter your plans, adapt, and be flexible. It is completely fine if you miss out on a few sessions or your in-studio yoga moves to virtual yoga. Health and fitness is a long-term commitment, and a few days off won’t make or break the end results.
- 5-minute Motivation: If you find yourself low on motivation, try moving for just 5-minutes. With the short amount of time, you'll definitely want to try this out. This 5-minute trick will help eliminate any guilt you might experience from skipping on workouts. You can even set a timer for 5 minutes. And chances are, once you get on with your workout, you may end up powering through it rather than stopping after 5 minutes.
- Reward yourself: Achieving goals can be very fulfilling but they aren’t reached overnight. It can be a slow process especially when the results are not that obvious. Focusing on smaller gains makes it easier to accept and slide into the process as you are not constantly thinking about the big picture. Reward yourself for achieving small goals, like working out 4 times a week instead of 3.
- Paid Workouts: Start paying for your workouts, this helps by making you feel more accountable. You are less likely to skip workouts if you know you’re wasting money on something you have already paid for while also losing out on the benefits you could have gotten from the activity.
- Get a Workout Partner: Finding a friend or partner to work out with can help you stay motivated. You can learn from one another and hold each other accountable, so you both can reach your fitness goals.
Remember that a new habit takes time to form, and consistency is key. Go the extra mile to do whatever makes it easy for you to get started, whether it is laying out your activewear for the next day or laying your yoga mat on the floor, every little thing counts to keep you motivated.
